Introduction to beer spoilers (lecture)

SOPs of lab work; introduce aseptic techniques; handwashing

Aseptic collection of beer samples from fermenters—can we sample from one of your brewery’s fermenters?

Sampling from packaged products (hands on)

Day 2 (Microscope workshop):

Introduction to the microscope

Staining methods

Hands-on simple staining/observing yeast and bacteria in the scope

Differential staining: Gram stain

Yeast counting: use of the hemacytometer

Viability staining

Wrap up/Q&A
