Following is a Q&A with one of the 749 students who received a diploma Dec. 16 at UW-Stout.
Name: Cory Basten
Hometown: Green Bay
Major: Computer networking and information technology
Why did you choose UW-Stout? I choose UW-Stout because it had the best information technology major in the Midwest.
What are the biggest obstacles you faced in earning your degree? Managing schoolwork with my work in the National Guard, unit HHC 2-127 in Appleton. My involvement was one weekend a month along with a week in the summer. I made it to the rank of sergeant as a systems support signal specialist.
What stands out among your college experiences? All the great people I met. A couple of my professors have helped me realize how to be a better leader. I've had friends and classmates help push me to be the best I can. I don't think I would be where I am without them.
What’s next? I'm moving to San Francisco to work for Cisco Meraki as a network support engineer.
