What is STEPS for Girls?

Science, Technology and Engineering Preview Summer (STEPS) at UW-Stout is a five-day residential summer camp for girls between their 6th and 7th grades in school. STEPS for Girls aims to build confidence in young women by structuring their participation in STEM-related activities. The hands-on activities and the high-energy environment are designed to inspire both confidence and enthusiasm.

When and Where is STEPS for Girls?

There are four five-day sessions schedule for summer 2019, as listed below.  Campers arrive on Sundays at 1:00 pm and depart on Thursdays after the 5:00 pm Graduation Ceremony.

  • Session 1: July 7-11, 2019 - Session full - Waitlist Available
  • Session 2: July 14-18, 2019 - Session full - Waitlist Available
  • Session 3: July 21-25, 2019 - Session full - Waitlist Available
  • Session 4: July 28 – Aug. 1, 2019 - Session full - Waitlist Available

Campers will stay in a supervised and secure residence hall at the University of Wisconsin - Stout for the entire camp session. They may also travel to other local sites for recreational activities, such as swimming at the community pool at Wakanda Park, pizza and karaoke party, touring two area-manufacturing companies, and participating in a “Ropes” team building activity at the university challenge course.

Campers, JCs, and LAs who need to update Contact or Health Information for Camp 2019, please download the necessary form and bring with you to registration.

Scholarship Opportunities

Full scholarships are available for underrepresented minorities and those who are eligible for free or reduced lunch.
