UW-Stout CONNECT will introduce you to more than 150 student organizations, including a dozen different engineering groups like the Society of Women Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and Engineers Without Borders. These student organizations hold many wonderful activities to get you involved and help you plan your career path.

Opportunities in engineering for the younger generation include Project Lead the Way. These programs introduce middle school and high school students to STEM, while boosting self-confidence and leadership skills, and driving ambition.

Faculty Highlight: Dr. Wei Zheng

Dr. Zheng is an Associate Professor and Program Director of the Plastics Engineering Program at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Prior to joining UW-Stout, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Polymer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University in 2008.

Dr. Zheng is the recipient of several state-funded grants including the WiSys Applied Research Grant and the G. A. Taft Professorship of UW-Stout. Her current research focuses on the bio- and/or biodegradable polymers including rheology of polymer melts and glasses, physics of crystallization and glass transition, curing kinetics of reversible thermosets, and structure-property-processing relationship.

Student Highlight: Cora Martell

Cora Martell joined Society of Women Engineers her first year and attended the 2016 Regional Conference at UW-Platteville. She learned about career opportunities and networked with various companies and female professionals.

Martell's big takeaway from the conference was realizing all the resources available to women in engineering. "The amount of support is overwhelming," she said. "My hopes for SWE at Stout is that it continues to grow and develops a stronger relationship with the local community to inspire the younger generation.”
